Our Story

IMG_1197.JPG

Mick Bates lived his life to the full. He gave his time, energy and motivation to benefit others. He was a force of joy and positivity.

Mick had the good of the community at heart. He was passionate about community regeneration, sustainable development and creating opportunities for young people to reach their full potential.

He believed in seeking out the common good and campaigning for rural issues. He loved Montgomeryshire and his local town of Llanfair Caereinon and the Banwy Valley. He wanted the best for it and its people.

Mick’s death was a huge loss to the community he served. A community that turned out in force at his funeral.

The Mick Bates Community Memorial Fund has been set up by Mick’s family to celebrate his life and his belief in the power of people working together to make good and improvements happen.

Through this Fund we aim to keep Mick’s legacy alive and raise money for charities and good causes that Mick championed. These include supporting young people to reach their potential, protect and enhance the environment, help those most in need and to bring communities together.  The Fund aims to benefit the whole of Montgomeryshire but particularly projects supporting Llanfair Caereinion and the Banwy valley.

“Mick had so much spirit. I’ve never seen so many people at a funeral. It’s a tribute to the person he was. We want to help keep his spirit alive through supporting the community of Llanfair Caereinion and Montgomeryshire.”
